In an interview posted through Square Enix, Co-Director Naoki Hamaguchi and Producer Yoshinori Kitase talk about their reasoning behind making some bold changes for the remake of such a beloved game - namely why Sephiroth was introduced so early in the game. I still loved the game, I’m excited for more, just really afraid of this new direction of changing destiny their going for, I’m afraid they might keep Aerith alive at the end of the game as that would be changing destiny and losing that famous and really impactful moment would completely kill the remake. As previously revealed, Final Fantasy VII Remake has many new elements to it and Scenarist Kazushige Nojima even explains how he rewrote Cloud for the remake. We also translated comments from Nojima about how Final Fantasy VII influenced Final Fantasy VIII. I just think it completely lessens the impact of the plate coming down. It also doesn’t make any sense as the were half dead, unable to move on the pillar mere minutes before it exploded. It also feels like they wanted to eat their cake and have it too, by pretending they killed off Jesse and Biggs so the characters would have to deal with that knowledge and the player would have to deal with that knowledge so they would hate Shinra even more, which works until they cop out and reveal that Biggs is alive and presumably Jesse as her gloves were on the table at Aerith mom’s house. I love most things they’ve done with the remake, especially giving actual character development to the avalanche trio, but leaving them alive and leaving every single npc you can talk to in the sector 7 slums alive completely kills the impact of the plate coming down, I didn’t have that much problem with Wedge living cause Jesse and Biggs still died and they died in a really nice, sad way that is appropriate for those characters. This implies that he’s tossed through a window on a very high up floor on the Shinra HQ. As Wedge is fighting for his life, he says he’s sorry and wanted to make a difference, while the camera fades to black and we hear the sound of glass shattering. The Whispers know this and are likely highly pissed that someone is trying to change fate.
You see, in Final Fantasy 7, Wedge, along with Jessie and Biggs, all die early on. The last time we saw Wedge, he was being attacked by those very same “Whispers” who were yet trying to fix Destiny by attempting to kill Wedge. This sidelined him for a while, but he solved up to save the team while they were fleeing from the Shinra HQ by calling in a helicopter. Luckily for him, Barret and Tifa were able to rescue him.
Nope, instead, he plummeted into a Shinra secret lab that was located under the Sector 7 slums the entire time (dun dun dun!). Then by some misfortune, a chuck of the plate was dropping right on top of Wedge. Who went on to warn the citizens of Sector 7 to escape because the sky was about to fall. However, he was found earlier by Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith. Like Jessie and Biggs, he was also on the plate battle. Every time we think we’d seen the end of him, he pops right back up. Wedge, it would seem, has nine lives just like those cats he keeps company with. So, for now, Jessie is one of the many who gave up her life in the fight against Shinra. However, seeing how Final Fantasy 7 Remake is all about changing destiny, there’s a chance she may have survived, but it hasn’t been confirmed. She succumbs to her injures, her light fades out, and poor Tifa lets out a few tears for her fallen companion and friend. During the battle, a Shinra helicopter enters the fray, and Jessie gets the idea to take it out with one of her special grenades, blowing everything up.Ĭloud and Tifa eventually find her in bad shape, and it doesn’t look like she was going to make it. When we last saw her, she, along with Biggs and Barrett, tried to stop Shinra from dropping the Midgar Sector 7 plate.
Sadly, things don’t look too well for her, I’m afraid. There’s zero doubt that her role has not only been expanded in Final Fantasy 7 Remake but has captured the hearts of millions due to her charm, her sass, and she’s pretty kick-ass. So don’t blame me if you spoil something that you didn’t want to.Īh, Jessie, that thirsty waifu that has set the internet on fire. It goes without saying that this goes into spoiler territory, so if you don’t mind being spoiled, then continue. Three characters who are nothing minor characters in the first game have become something more. We’ll be talking about our favorite trio of Jessie, Biggs, and Wedge. As such, there’s plenty to talk about, lots of stuff to speculate, and that’s what we’ll be doing today. I’ve finally wrapped up my playthrough of Final Fantasy 7 Remake after 40-ish with the game.
